Chinatown: East Asian spirit in Buenos Aires
With a spand of no more than four blocks and inaugurated in 1988, the Buenos Aires Chinatown is located in the Belgrano Neighborhood, specifically on Arribeños and Mendoza streets. This is the only Chinatown in Latin America and one of the few to have a traditional Chinese Arch at its entrance (The 36 ft or 11 metre high stone and cement archway was made in China and brought to Argentina in pieces, it has three levels of tiles, and is decorated with images of dragons and lions)
Despite being a Chinatown, this space is also shared
by locals and different ethnic groups (like Japan and Thailand) however it is a fully functional
Chinatown and meets all the basic needs of the Chinese community in the city.
It is also worth mentioning that The immigrant families opened numerous restaurants and supermarkets, as well as one of the city’s first buddhist temples, the Chong Kuan temple in Montañeses street.
From our hotel we strongly recommend entering the
Chinatown through its imposing access arch, located in Juramento and Arribeños streets,
and although its incessant bustle, strange aromas and foreign products may seem
intimidating to many, it is worth walking through its streets and discovering a
different walk where we can buy gifts, snacks, spices, food or even taste unknown
dishes in one of its many restaurants or food stalls.
It is also worth mentioning that these immigrant families opened numerous restaurants and supermarkets, as well as one of the city’s first buddhist temples, the Chong Kuan temple in Montañeses street.
Don't miss the chance to travel to the Old World of Asia in Buenos Aires!
