The Colon Theater: the crown jewel for music in the city

Without a doubt the Colon theater is one of the most famous opera houses in the world, not only for its amazing arquitecture, but also for its acoustic, making it a favorite among singers, musicians and conductors. That is why it has come to be considered one of the best lyrical theaters ever.

The interior of the Colon Theater

The Colon theater was inaugurated on May 25th 1908 after several years of ordeals (it took almost 20 years to complete!) It was the work of three arquitects (Tamburini, Meano and Dormal) who made possible the titanic task to give life to this amazing venue. Ecclectism was the style choosen for the Colon and it is an example of the thriving cultural wave the country was experiencing at the beggining of the XX century, inspired by Europe (especially Italy and France)

It staged the most important singers and dancers in the world like Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Maria Callas, Julio Bocca and Mijail Barishnicov among so many others.
Between 2005-2012 it went under mayor renovations to bring the theater back to its glory days, a task that was worth the waiting, since it now looks more regal than ever.
